St Peters Trust

ChurchyardSt Peters church is a jewel in the heart of Hampshire, a 2 star listed building of historical and architectural importance where people have worshipped for over 800 years.

First built in stone in the 13th century to replace an earlier structure, the fabric of St Peters has been marked by each passing century. A 13th century nave, doorway and pillars, 15th century font and stain glass windows, 16th century porch and  17th century stain glass windows are amongst the architectural treasures that St Peters contains. To see more on the building itself or more of the history of the church and its building please visit St Peters. These are pages on the St Peters IPC Church website and you are welcome to see who we are

After many decades without the need for major repairs being addressed, St Peters is now in desperate need of restoration before the deterioration of the church becomes irreversible.

A separate charity, The St Peters Trust has been specifically set up to restore and watch over this ancient building. The trustees are made up of both members of the local community and members of the church, bringing experience in areas such as business, fundraising, law, banking and working with Local Authorities.

As a body the trust is committed to the protection and historically faithful maintenance of St Peters as well as raising the funds to facilitate this.

The current situation...

Surveys on St Peters have shown that restoration needs include, among other things; repair of historic roofs, beams and spire, lead work, work on the external walls, render and windows as well as the re-laying of the spire’s traditional oak shakes. The total cost of restoring St Peters using traditional methods necessary is £250,000.

St Peters Trust approached English Heritage for a grant towards these costs and has received a grant offer of £116,000 on the condition that we raise the money to cover the shortfall.

So far, donations and pledges from church members, fundraising and applications for charitable grants have allowed the Trust to raise £22,000 however, at least:

£112, 000

Must still be raised in order to secure the English Heritage grant and begin work to save St Peters on schedule.

If you would like to give in order to help restore St Peters, whether through a one-off donation or standing order cheques can be made out to St Peters Trust and sent to the address below. For more information about standing orders or cash donations please contact us directly (or you can find standing order forms and a donation box at the back of the church).

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to arrange to visit St Peters. We appreciate your interest and support in our efforts to take care of this precious building for the benefit of future generations.
